Philosoph Paulus Venetus lehrte Anfang des 15. Jhs. an der Universität Padua und gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Logiker des Mittelalters. Seine vielfach aufgelegten Schriften wurden noch im 16. Jh. als Handbuch für den Logikunterricht genutzt. - Der Logiker und Naturphilosoph Guillelmus Hentisberus (gest. 1372/73) lehrte in Oxford und war später Kanzler der dortigen Universität. - Erste und letzte Bll. gering stockfl., 2 Bll. mit altem Stempel, erstes Textbl. mit Exlibris 'Biblioteca de D. F. F. de Navarrete'. Breitrandiges und sehr sauberes Exemplar.Not in BMC. - First editions of these very scarce philosophical writings about logic from presses in Pavia, all in very similar shape of printing: gothic type, 2 columns, 48 resp. 47 lines. "Paul of Venice was the most important Italian thinker of his times, and one of the most prominent and interesting logicians of the Middle Ages. His philosophical theories (culminating in a metaphysics of essences which states the ontological and epistemological primacy of universals over any other kind of beings) are the final and highest result of the preceding realistic tradition of thought." (Stanford Encycl. of Philosophy) - Minor foxing to first and last leaves, 2 leaves with stamp, first text leaf with bookplate D. F. F. de Navarrete. Very clean and fine copy with broad margins.
